Group Seven: Dearest Group

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born." - Anais Nin
Ryan Carlo E. Arcilla

When we were sophomores, I thought of Ryan being a man of sincerity, fidelity and laughter. These are the descriptions that I could entitle this young man. He is very versatile. Though I always tease him to be boastful, I know that he is the most humble person that I have met. He is really one of a kind. But, what I do not like about him is that sometimes he is way too insensitive. If he does improve the latter, he would be the most perfect gentleman that girls would really love to adore. He will always have my trust.

After atleast two years, I have come to know this person a little more. Through time, he had change. Now, I see him as a completely funny guy, yet his thoughts are at times too vague. Vague, in the sense that you need to dig deep in order to see what he wants you to see. Yet, at times, he usually show his feelings through his facial expressions, not to mention when he turns red just like a tomato whenever an unexpected thing happens.

 Catrina Joyce A. Arellano

A very beautiful person inside and out is the most notable characteristic of Cathy. She is very kind; most probably the kindest in our section. She is very sensitive to the feelings of other people. She shares everything that they have. Moreover, she never fails to mingle to everyone regardless to what societal status they belong. But, what I really want this girl to practice is the art of expressing herself more to other people. I hope that in time, she would be afraid to open up her feelings to other people. With that, she would surely become the one of the most beautiful butterfly of our generation.

Two years have passed, yet there is still nothing negative that I could say for this girl. She is still so gentle and sweet just as I knew her before. Her kind words and acts make every person in the room love her so much. I could say that if we will be having an elimination for being rude or mean, she will be the last person to be voted out. Yet, at times, because of her kindness, she tends to prioritize other people more than she prioritize herself. This is the reason why at times, she suffers. I saw her cry. Yet, even though she's angry, she does not complain. Again, just what I have said before, I hope that she would overcome her fear of opening up.

Omar Rushlive L. Arellano

The silence and depth of his thoughts makes Omar misunderstood most of the time. But the kindness of his heart explains his persona more than what everybody else sees him into. He is multi-talented but sometimes he does not know his priorities. What I want him to find out is the ability to maximize his time. Also, I also like him to learn how to open his heart to every person around him. I want him to know that there are people out there who are trustworthy whom will never leave him no matter what. As for me, I have accepted him for who he is disregarding his shortcomings and great skills. He is my friend and will be my friend no matter what.

After two years with Omar, i have seen his improvement. I can say that he has matured a little bit. He can already go on his own during our RLE duties, even at our SLMC rotations without getting scared. Also, he already verbalize what he feels though, at times, he point out some irrational ideas which make other people mad. Yet, I can say that I salute his utmost efforts to change himself for the better.

Nowenikko A. Arguelles

He is the most silent person that I knew. But right now, I’m glad that he knows how to open up already. I know that he had been into so much that he, most of the times, just does everything in a form of joke. With this, others tend to not take him seriously. But, I want him to know that I will always reach unto him so that I would know him better. I want to let him shine for I believe that he has a lot to offer. I want him to realize that he has the capabilities to become one of the best. He just needs to believe in himself.

Happily, after two years, I can now talk to Noki in a serious manner. He, at the very least, had opened up some of his great childhood experiences. I could also ask him for some pieces of advice and most of the times, I could rely on him especially during our RLE duties. I know that this kind guy would have a great future. He just have to develop the confidence and the courage to be what he needs to become.

Agnetha Leah B. Ariota

The most opinionated lass that I have met, Agnetha is very vocal about her feelings towards other people. She is very kind although others fail to see it in her. She also knew what is good and what is bad. She is worth a million. Every person is very lucky to have her in their lives. Nothing more and nothing less.

Agnetha, surprisingly, had changed her attitude after two years. now she is more calm and reserved. She always smiles especially when she is with her close friends. She does not anymore take other's comment negatively. Instead, she uses them in order to grow into an intelligent lady. She never fails to make me laugh. Yet at times, I am being pissed off with her naughty side. But, I totally love her as my friend as of the moment.

“What I have in my college life are my friends around me. They are my strongest points. They are my sword and I am their scabbard. Destiny may separate us but they will always be at the bottom of my heart.”

COMMUNITY DUTY

Maybe, one of the most enjoying duty that we have had are our duties in the communities of Kamandag and Pagrai in Antipolo. Fun? Yes, as for me, because this is the duty wherein we had the time to know each other- the people who we really are especiallyy when dealing with our unfortunate brothers and sisters.

Ryan and Netha. Funny.

NATIONAL CENTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Being with other groups gave us a lot of fun especially when we had ourr Clinical experience at NCMH. It was the best duty as for me, which made me realize how lucky we were to be free from any mental disabilities. Yet, what we did learn was the ways to accept people who are mentallyy challenged for they are still human being who are to be respected and cared for. This rotation made me realize that I want to become a great psychiatric nurse someday.

Batch Report: Second Year

“Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.”

Group Seven (my beloved dutymates)
Clinical duties, different nursing concepts and some general education subjects- these are the requirements being encountered by us sophomores the second semester of school year 2009-2010. After studying the astonishing Anatomy and Physiology of the human body and the devastating ailments in our discussions in Microbiology, including the breath-taking concept of MCN, we are courageously facing the exciting concept of Pharmacology. I know that we will be able to know a lot of things in this subject which would further enhance our skills in the Nursing profession.

I guess everything in this world is really impermanent for everything would drastically change nor expire. November was it when three of my dedicated fellow co-officers decided to leave their respective positions in order for them to concentrate more on their studies. Ms. Joanne Natividad (Batch Secretary) left her spot due to some personal problems while Mr. Joshua Jeremy Felarca (Batch Secretary) and Mr. Patrick Joseph T. Reyes (Batch PRO) ought to entrust their post to someone whom they think could balance the responsibility of being an officer and the duties of a Nursing student much better than them. Lately, two of the remaining officers also have made up their mind in letting go of their job. Ms. Jaenna Cryzella Baliton (Batch Treasurer- Team A) and Mr. Reinaldo Manalo Jr. (Batch Auditor- Team B) had quit their post due to some sensitive problems of their own. I would like to commend these people who did a great job in serving the batch during their term. They enthusiastically fulfilled all the needs of batch Exaleron and had continuously devoted their time and effort for the success of every program of the batch. These five people had served the batch well and I think that it’s the perfect time to let them reach their own goals and focus more on their priorities. We will surely miss you guys. Good luck and God bless in your endeavors.

Due to the vacancy of some positions in the batch, I, together with the other batch officers and through the approval of the batch advisers, had appointed the following people to fill in the gaps in round table of the batch officers:

Name
Section
Position
Ms. Trisha Garcia
2NU05
Batch Secretary
Ms. Karen Ilano
2NU05
Batch Treasurer- TA
Ms. Deidri Gonzales
2Nu05
Batch Auditor- TA
Mr. Jon Raymond Rubio
2NU09
Batch Public Relations Officer

Knowing their responsible nature and the utmost perfection in the things that they do, I am hoping that they will continue what the previous officers had started. We would like to welcome you in the core organization of the knights of St. Luke’s College of Nursing.

December, a friendly competition rose again among the four batch as the SNA conducted the Paskong Himigsikan. We trained under the versatile students namely Mr. Arneil Sarines (2NU09) and Ms. Sherica Torres (2NU10). We placed 4th among the group but despite of our defeat, I am very proud of the participants. The experiences that they had and the efforts that they did exert was an undeniable truth that they are already champions in their own ways. Until the next performance Exaleron chorale!

After the short Christmas and New Year vacation, I thought that there will be no activities with which the batch would indulge to. Surprisingly, I, together with my officers was shocked to hear that our batch will play a part in the upcoming foundation week of the school. Third week of January, we were informed that the Batch Exaleron was chosen to represent the St. Luke’s College of Nursing in the upcoming Mardi Gras competition to be held on February 5, 2010 (Friday) at the Patio Trinidad. We had approximately two weeks of preparation before the said event. Everything should be at a fast pace. Luckily, after nights of preparation for the dance, as well as the props, we emerged as the 2nd placer of the said event. I would like to praise the people who worked hard for the success of the performance especially to Mr. Harjet Ramos of 2NU08 for the concept of the dance, to Ms. Blesilda Agbanlog (2NU01) and Ms. Criscel Bagaipo (2NU02) for the wonderful array of costumes and props. I would also like to thank the performers who, despite of their busy schedule, took the effort of playing a part in the competition. In addition, I would applaud the participation of the drummers who spiced up the level of the performance. Lastly, I would like to thank the Student Nurses Association for believing in our capabilities and supporting us for the success of the event.

Exhausted but fulfilled. Credits to everyone who participated.

Immediately after the Mardi gras performance, the foundation week was almost over. Yet, I had captured some of the fun-filled moments with my batch mates together with the other batches. Truly, I have seen unity among the SLCN students who wanted to continue the legacy of being the over-all champion for the 7th year. Undying cheers and loud acclamations would be heard in and out of the Trinity gymnasium due to the heightened exhibit of games. I could still recall the moments when we were all chanting the SLCN cheer, “S-L-C-N, the blue, gold and white, the best of the best- Alright!” to show our support to rest of the players. In the end, we, again, emerged as victors in our foundation day. Kudos St. Luke’s College of Nursing!

Now, I have come to end my report. It is barely the end of February and the beginning of March 2010. What pops into my mind is the graduation of our dear Amaranth. Truly, the expectations of everyone are of a bit high which intensifies the pressure and exacerbates the stress level of our dear seniors. Amidst all of this, our batch would like to extend our deepest support to all of you. We know that all of you would perform best just like what you have shown us for the past four years. With your skills and knowledge as well as the experiences that molded you into what you have been today, you will surely outwit other competent and promising student out there. Continue to set the flames of your determination to excel and never forget to seek guidance from our dear Lord. We wish you guys all the best. Good luck to all of your future undertakings.

Cathy/Me/Noki/Netha

To sum it up, always remember that we are here right now for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink like a grain of sand.

Exaleron Batch Report: 1st Year College

The key to realizing a dream is to focus not on the success but on the significance- and then, even the small steps and little victories along the path will take on greater meaning.” Every success starts with one little dream which will later be accomplished to a reality through hard work and determination. With our mind focused on what we really want to achieve, all shall be conquered.

A lot of things have happened since batch Exaleron was established last November 2008. We have so many things set in our minds and we opt to accomplish those things in any way we could.

Our first goal is to conceptualize an insignia that would best represent our batch. Numerous propositions were raised in collaboration with the different insights of what our batch would certainly be. After several deliberations, majority of the Executive Committee have decided that we will carry the name Exaleron, a combination of Exal (experimental) and Aleron (knights).

The batch emblem will not be complete without its corresponding logo, as well as its color. Painstakingly, we have chosen the logo that was made by Mr. Joden Paat. The logo illustrates a sword in front of a shield with a letter “E” on it. Orange, the color of knowledge and wisdom, complements our batch logo.

After the formation of our batch symbols, we never expected that a commotion will emerge concerning the unanticipated similarities of our batch representation to that of batch Eximius. With that, we would like to extend our apologies for the overlooked information regarding our batch insignia.

We also have established an online group, Exaleron@yahoo.com and www.exaleron.multiply.com, which would update our batch on the latest events and announcements. It also allows people to express their thoughts regarding the new projects for the batch.

We thought that our worries would be lessened after we have formed our batch emblems. Yet, to our surprise, more work quickly piled up on our desks. The next challenge that we had was the production of our batch shirt. There were many who showed their creativity by designing the shirt that does not only suit their individual preferences but the batch as well. After various considerations, we have chosen the artistic design of Ms. Phoebe Lyssandra Lee.

Being the very first batch to undergo the new curriculum and being a part of the BSN program, we are immediately exposed to some of the major events of the school, especially those organized by the Student Nurses’ Association.

Although it was not yet official, the Administration and the Student Nurses’ Association were kind enough to allow our batch to participate in some of the most significant events of the St. Luke’s College of Nursing. First, we were allowed to play an exhibition match (basketball) during the SNA days. Second, some of us were allowed to see the prestigious SNA big night. Third, we were included in the Christmas Gift Sharing activity proposed by the batch Insignis for the less fortunate people in Liliw as well as the other communities our school is affiliated with. Lastly, the batch was always updated with all the things that went around the Nursing department because our “brothers and sisters” from the higher batches never failed to invite us whenever they have important meetings. We felt that we were already welcome and fully accepted as part of the SNA. We would like to thank batch Insignis, Amaranth and Eximius for taking care of us.

Subjected to stress, the batch experienced great torment during the second semester and summer of our first year in Trinity University of Asia. Truly, before becoming a professional, especially in the field of medicine, which deals with life and death situations, one must learn the anatomy and physiology of the human body, as well the possible microorganisms that affects the body systems. In a quick phase, we tackled every major system of the body during the second semester. Nights seemed to be our days, especially in reviewing for the pathophysiology of certain illnesses. In addition, we also managed to hurdle over the energy-draining microbiology. Yet, we believe that our nursing life has just begun. Currently, we are studying the basic foundations of our curriculum that we must learn before accelerating into a more complex form of education.

After the mind-boggling lectures offered in the second semester and summer, it is now time to face the frightening results of the screening process. Anxiety among our batch slowly builds up. I could still remember most of us getting forms from other schools. All hope seemed lost until the delivery of the good news spread onto the walls of our beloved college- our minimum GPA was modified from 2.00 to 2.15. Everyone was so happy with the news-breaking event. Yet, although our GPA was modified, it still does not remove the possibility that we will not be able to make it to the prestigious blue and white uniform. Days quickly passed by and here it is- Judgment day came. June 03, 2009 is one of the most unforgettable dates of our lives in Trinity University of Asia because it would determine what future we will have in the next three years. Everybody, lined up straight in the second floor of the HSC building, was hoping that they would still be accommodated in our school. After receiving the envelopes, we saw mixed emotions from every people. Most were happily shouting because they were promoted to second year while others were silently weeping under their false smiles because they failed to pass the screening process. In the middle of it all, we know that whatever happens, all of us will succeed in our chosen endeavors even if we study in different schools as long as we hold on to our lifelong dreams with the supervision of our Almighty God.

After the life changing battery examination results, the most anticipated Capping and Pinning Ceremony waits. Months of preparations took place before the day where we will be honored as student nurses of our generation. Sleepless nights and tiring days served as the welcoming invitations to the said event for the batch officers. Weekly arrangements and coordination, as well as daily deliberations, took place in preparation for the most awaited event. July 15, 2009 was the date of our Capping and Pinning Ceremony. The venue selected was in Crossroad 77 located at Mother Ignacia, Quezon City. We have collected 1,300 php each student as payment for our Capping and Pinning Ceremony.

After several trials and hardships, the batch officers, with the participation of the batch, made the Capping and Pinning Ceremony a great success. I, the batch president, would like to take this opportunity to thank Dean Gisela D.A. Luna and the Administration for the undying support that they gave to us; our batch advisers, Ms. Marilyn V. Buhat and Ms. Julie Ann Gundran, for the guidance and love amidst all the difficulties that we have encountered; the faculty who, despite of their busy schedule, attended the event; our batch mates, who were so cooperative; the batch officers, who never gave up in spite of all the hardships that they have endured; and to God, who never fails to shower blessings upon our batch.

Today, we still continue to do our best, especially in our clinical duties because of the oath that we all have made in our Capping and pinning Ceremony – to be one of the greatest nurses of our generation. We will live up to that promise until it is fully achieved. We are just starting to bloom and will continue to shine no matter what happens! Way to go batch EXALERON!
